Troy Spencer is a Dutch composer/multi-instrumentalist/ bandleader/poet and author.
In addition to composing for, playing in and leading his ongoing avantprog ensemble "The Immigrants" he records, plays and writes a large amount of music in his home studio in Dalen, the Netherlands.
His music transcends styles or genres and is as eclectic as it is intriguing and innovative.
Spencer maintains a strict separation between his written
and recorded music in order to have some structure
in his large amount of output.
Apart from composing and playing music Spencer is a prolific author and poet as well, having written three theater plays, several short stories and a large number of short and long(er) poems.
Being based in Berlin Spencer has also become a very active member of the Berlin music scene, playing in and composing for a wide spectrum of ensembles and bands.
Spencer has also taken numerous sidesteps into the realm of video and film, all his videos feature music composed and recorded by him, as seen in his recent "Excerpt from" series.

Here's what some of the critics had to say:
By combining elements from a wide variety of genres and many original ideas Spencer developed a unique style with a contemporary feel, a somewhat cinematic approach, bits of storytelling and a progressive attitude.

Not an easy listening experience by any means, avantgarde(-classical) music enthusiasts, watch out for this one!
(André de Waal/IO Pages)
....meticulously constructed anarchy often taking detours into a world far beyond everyday life....
(René van Peer)
....through-composed, well arranged, shapely pieces, nicely realised. The Zappa influence is palpable: Unfashionably musical!
(Recommended Records/Chris Cutler)
Amazing and sometimes utterly absurd!
(Dagblad v/h Noorden)
Spencer's approach to music is virtually unheard of in this day and age. You might have expected this 40 years ago with Frank Zappa or the Soft machine, but nowadays this approach to music is becoming a rare commodity.

You are warned! this music is strictly for the musically well educated explorers!
(OOR music magazine)
It's been a long time since I've heard such uplifting and challenging music!
(New Folk Sounds)
Very Cleverly composed, intricate pieces of music....
